Editorial Policy

The short version

Every guide on Freyja Publishing is researched and written by the site’s publisher against a fixed set of rules: neutral comparisons, dated and checked prices, no guaranteed income claims, and no hidden commercial influence. Where a question needs a lawyer, accountant or other professional who knows your own situation, we say so rather than guessing. If we get something wrong, tell us and we will correct it in public.

Who writes this site

Freyja Publishing is researched and written by its publisher. We do not buy syndicated articles, we do not republish content from other sites, and we do not run guest posts placed for links.

We are independent publishers writing about the practical side of self-publishing. We are not lawyers, accountants or financial advisers, and we do not present ourselves as any of those things. That limit is the reason for several of the rules below.

The rules every article is held to

1. No invented figures. We do not publish a statistic, sales figure, royalty rate or “authors report” claim unless it is genuinely sourced and checked. Where we cannot verify a number, we describe the pattern in words instead.

2. Neutral tool and service comparisons. When we compare software, AI tools, platforms or services, we set out what each one does, who it suits, who it does not suit, and its limits, including for tools we may earn a commission on. A free or cheaper option that does the job is said to do the job. We do not rank a product higher because of a commercial relationship.

3. Prices are dated and checked. Subscription prices, plans and platform fees change often and differ by country and currency. Where we give a price, we say when it was checked, and we check it again when the article is reviewed. Always confirm the current price on the provider’s own site before you pay.

4. No guaranteed income claims. Publishing income varies enormously between authors, genres and years. We do not promise sales, royalties, rankings or a living from writing, and we do not write “guaranteed”, “passive income for life” or “six figures in a year”. Worked examples are labelled as illustrations, not predictions.

5. Paid advertising is treated with care. Any guide that covers paid advertising, such as Amazon Ads, BookBub or social media ads, stresses setting a budget you can afford to lose, using daily and total spending caps, starting small, and checking results before spending more. We never suggest that paid ads are required to publish successfully.

6. Our own books are identified and kept separate. Freyja Publishing also publishes books. Where our own titles appear on this site, they are clearly identified as ours, and they are kept separate from our guides and comparisons. Our guides do not recommend our own books as the answer to a reader’s question.

7. Written for authors everywhere. Our readers are worldwide. Where tax, copyright, ISBN rules, platform terms or consumer law differ between countries, we say so and point readers to their own country’s authority rather than assuming one market’s rules apply everywhere.

8. Commercial content is separated and disclosed. This site may carry advertising and affiliate links. Neither ever influences a recommendation or a conclusion, and no advertiser sees an article before it is published. Any commercial relationship is disclosed. See our Affiliate Disclosure for the detail.

How articles are produced

Each guide is planned around one real question an author actually asks. It is researched, drafted, then checked against the rules above line by line before it goes anywhere near publication. Checks specifically look for unverified numbers, undated or out-of-date prices, any promise of income, paid-advertising advice without budgets and caps, any undisclosed commercial angle, and any claim that would only be true in one country.

Nothing publishes automatically. Every article is fact-checked against named sources before release, and publication is approved by the site’s publisher.

Where our limits are

We will not answer, by email or in an article, any of the following. Each of them needs a professional who knows your situation.

  • Legal advice on a specific contract, copyright dispute or trademark
  • Tax or accounting advice for your own income or business
  • Financial advice, including how much you personally should spend on advertising
  • A prediction of how a particular book will sell

For those, please speak to a qualified lawyer, accountant or adviser in your own country.

Corrections

We would rather be corrected than be consistent.

If you find an error, including a price or plan that has changed, tell us through our contact page, giving the page and the problem.

  • Minor fixes such as typos and broken links are made quietly.
  • Factual corrections, including changed prices, are made to the article and noted at the foot of the page, with the date and what changed.
  • Substantial corrections, where the original information could have led a reader to lose money or make the wrong decision, are noted clearly at the top of the article as well.

We do not silently delete articles to make an error disappear.

Reviews and updates

Tools, platforms and their terms change quickly. Articles are revisited periodically and updated where features, prices or rules have moved on. Where an article has been materially updated, the page will show it.

A note on this page

This policy describes how we work, not a professional qualification we do not hold. Freyja Publishing publishes general educational information for authors and publishers worldwide. It is not legal, tax or financial advice, and never a replacement for a qualified professional who can look at your own situation.
